55 Most Instagrammable and Prettiest Places to Eat in London
One of the things I enjoy most about visiting a new country is trying the local foods! Although England does not have any wild dishes (according to my simple standards lol), the culinary in London is very diverse and influenced by a variety of cultures. British food has some similarities to Scottish food. Although our personal favorite has been the food in Portugal, there are many classic British dishes you must try. After reading through this blog you will not only have a list of where to eat classic British dishes but also what to try in each amazing restaurant!Must-Try Dishes:Fish and ChipsA classic and popular British dish. It is the go-to on a Friday night or casual Saturday afternoon, or let’s be honest anytime you want! Nothing is better than a perfectly fried crispy fish and golden potatoes, perfectly balanced by the mashed peas. This dish is a personal favorite of mine, you cannot go wrong with any meal when potatoes are involved! You will find this dish served in almost any British restaurant and pub. (PS, French Fries are called chips in the UK and chips are called crisps).Proper British BreakfastIf you are visiting any part of England, you must experience a proper British breakfast. Obviously served in the morning or brunch time, it is a great way to start the day! Sometimes referred to as a ‘fry-up’, the proper British breakfast includes fried eggs, sausages, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, fried bread and a slice of white or black pudding. If you are feeling especially hungry add baked beans, hash browns, or buttered toast. Of course, you can wash it all down with a cup of tea or coffee. Served in most hotels, B&Bs, and even all-day breakfast places.Shepherd’s PieShepherd’s Pie is another must-try while you are in England. Often served in and categorized as ‘pub’ food, this classic will leave you satisfied and your belly full. This pie is traditionally made with lamb or mutton. In the US, it is typically made with ground beef, but in the UK, they would call that cottage pie. The meat is mixed with vegetables and topped with mashed potatoes, then cooked to golden perfection. You will find this dish served in any local restaurant and as mentioned above, in any pub. Here is a list of must-try restaurants:Greyhound, OxfordIf you are taking a day trip from London, this is the perfect place to stop for lunch. Away from the city and tourist traps, you will experience authentic pub food and fantastic atmosphere. From the variety of items on the menu, I tried the burger. It was delicious and tasted fresh! (of course, you can order a classic fish and chips here as well).Total cost $30Nando’s, LondonThis holds a special place in our hearts, we had our first date at Nando’s back in the States. Nando’s menu is a mix of African and Portuguese flavors and is worldwide! This is the perfect place to stop by if you are looking for a quick, yet delicious bite to eat. The main course is chicken, however, there are wraps and salads to try as well. Don’t forget the yummy lemon garlic sauce!Total cost $20-25Honest Burgers, LondonIf you are looking for an honest to goodness burger, hop right over to Honest Burger. These burgers are massive and delicious! You might even think about splitting it with your travel buddy. There are several locations around the London area, but all serve the same menu. Chicken and veggie burgers are available as well!Total cost $20-30Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea at the Sanderson, LondonThe British nation is known for their love of tea. Spend a very British-style afternoon at the Mad Hatter’s Tea. This was one of my favorite things we did in London. The tea is served with a tier filled with sweet and savory treats, perfect for an afternoon snack. All the goodies and décor were based off of Alice in Wonderland, which added charm to the hotel setting.
Total cost for two $150Twining’s Tea, Temple LondonThis isn’t a restaurant, but I thought I would mention it. If you are a tea lover, stop by Twining’s for authentic British tea. From greens to earl greys, to herbal and fruit infusions you won’t be able to choose just one!!
Total cost, whatever your wallet allows. The Horse & Groom, WindsorIf you make your way out of London, stop by a British pub and grab a bite to eat at the Horse Groom. Located right beside the entrance to Windsor Castle; this is the perfect place to eat a shepherd’s pie or fish and chips. And the perfect place to rest after a day of sightseeing.Total cost $30Masala ZoneIf you are looking to expand your horizons and pallet, stop by this authentic Indian cuisine restaurant. Try the traditional thalis or curries for the main course and try Indian ice cream for dessert!Total cost $50Jamies ItalianIf you are tired of British food and in the mood for pasta, stop by this restaurant for the best Italian food around! My favorite is the ravioli — I got the lobster option. I also tried the calzone, but it was way larger than I thought, so plan to split that with a friend.Total cost $50There are so many restaurants and foods to try in England, this blog is just a small taste of what London has to offer (pun intended). Nothing beats the classic dishes, but it is always fun to try something new and exciting!Thank you for reading!
